Bung Enterprises - Game Doctor

The most famous Backup Device maker is the oddly named Bung Enterprises. They had been in the business the longest, with their first device, the Game Doctor, being designed to work with the FamiCom. Bung went on to make many more Backup Units for for use with all the cart based consoles from the Famicom to the N64.

Here is (what I think is) the complete list :

  • Game Doctor - for use with the FamiCom and the FamiCom Disk System.
  • Mini Doctor - which know nothing about, I imagine it was for the FamiCom perhaps with its own FDD.
  • Game Master - which know nothing about, I imagine it was for the FamiCom perhaps with its own FDD.
  • Multi-Game Doctor - Works with the Famicom, Mega Drive, SNES and PC-E
  • Multi-Game Doctor 2 - Works with loads of consoles with the use of adapters and SRAM/DRAM cards.
  • Game Doctor SF1 - Early Super FamiCom copier
  • Game Doctor SF2 - Early Super FamiCom copier but with more utilities.
  • Game Doctor SF3 - Super FamiCom copier
  • Game Doctor SF6 - For the SNES/SFC.
  • Game Doctor SF7 - Again, for the SNES/SFC, but better.
  • Doctor PCjr - A FamiCom clone with a backup unit and a PC built in - it even has a mouse!
  • Gameboy Exchanger - A simple backup unit for the GB.
  • Doctor V64 - The first N64 backup unit.
  • V64jr - A more basic backup unit for the N64.
  • Multi Exchanger - Lets you load GB and N64 games from the PSX to GB flash cards and to V64jr via a cable.
  • NeoGeo Pocket Exchanger - A simple backup unit for the NGP.
  • Game Station - A SNES/SFC compatable system with CDROM drive and space to add a FDD, no cart slot though!!

Game Doctor

Has 4Mb of RAM to load games into. It requires a FDS to back games into, you can copy FDS disks as well as backup carts. It is compatible with more games than people think. A great device to own if you have a way of dumping and writing to FDS disks from your pc... I say it beats dr pc jr. It doesn't keep games in RAM so you have to keep loading them like most copiers. It works with all the dragonball games :) not worth having really because unless you own all the games you will ever want, and want to back them up onto FDS disks its useless.
